Fun Dance Fact

Tango originated in the barrios and work camps of Argentina. At first it was danced by 2 men as a ritualized way of showing dominance in their competition for the affection of the few women who shared that space. It has since become a ritualized dance of courtship most often danced between a man and a woman. Recently two of the most prominent men in ballroom choreography and instruction in the United States performed a tango on Dancing with the Stars that led to a discussion in social media about ELEF (Everyone Leads Everyone Follows), the idea that it is fun to dance both parts of partner dances, and that it develops us as dancers. Look up Derek Hough and Mark Ballas Tango on You Tube to see this fascinating performance.
